
Nimra Health – Accessing Affordable Healthcare with Ease
A Hackathon is a short-term process of creating series of techniques for feedback from the prospective customer in order to implement this information to develop a minimum viable product to test the growth its growth in the marketplace.
The hackathon process involves 6 stages which includes Identifying and pitching a problem, breaking it down and forming a team formation, conducting a primary market research and brainstorm solutions, pulse check and practice pitches, improve on solutions and showcase minimum viable product (MVP).
The idea to work on an integrated data records and management system came from the fact that the deterioration of quality healthcare in Nigeria has led to avoidable deaths and protracted illnesses as a result of lack of patient’s history based on the paper filing system exists as the means of administering treatment to a patient which leads to longer waiting time and discomfort in the client’s reception to timely treatment.
Team Nimra health comprising of Chilo Nwokolo, Feyi Sadiku, Ugonna Okore and Emmanuel Otori set out to unravel what could be the underlying circumstances that has caused the health sector this challenge for a long period of time.
Our process involved having one on one discussions with healthcare practitioners and patients to get details about useful information that could help us provide the needed solution, we also put in place focus groups and surveys using Google forms.
Design thinking is a social technology that utilizes tools to get around human biases as it takes a look at the problem, root cause and solution through a user driven criteria.
There are five stages in the design thinking process.
Empathize
To empathize means to be able to see clearly through the lens of things as they are rather than as they ought to be. This is to ensure that assumptions are dispelled and an open mind is activated to see things without being judgmental. Team Nimra began this process by seeking to understand why hospitals were complacent with use of traditional records system.
Define
To define means to initiate the process of making clear objectives for the team, the role of each member by engaging in different activities in order to determine the challenges faced. Our team was prepared to engage users of a variety of services in the healthcare industry and began to put together meetings using online mediums such as Zoom to gather information.
Ideate
To ideate means to take into consideration all possible ideas that has been given as the challenges faced in the healthcare industry with respect to maintaining a records management system. Team Nimra began to ask questions and receive feedback from the different qualitative and quantitative techniques from the previous step and began to see how the challenges observed are converging in one place and the best possible solution to present.
Prototype
A prototype is the basic version of a product or service launched in order to offer customers offerings in a way to understand how they perceive the solution presented in the form of a prototype and how to refine it into a user friendly one.
Test
The prototype or minimum viable product is then ready to be tested in the marketplace by prospects.
Testing is the most important stage as it validates the need for the proposed solution.

Our product Nimra Health was then pithed to a number of judges on the pitch day in order to receive feedback for these industry-based experts about their opinions on the viability of the product. Nimra Health addresses the need for an electronic record-based management system in the healthcare industry.
Users of Nimra Health would be hospitals, patients and other stakeholders in the healthcare industry.
